Room 12 have been enjoying time each day using the new resources purchased by the Home and School. We have been learning how to programme the Beebots and Probots to travel certain distances by entering instructions in code. The Probot group challenge one day was to create a geometric shape, measure the lengths of the sides and calculate the perimeter of the shape! Two days earlier only a handful of children had used the tools! This required great co-operation, discussion, problem solving and patience! The school values of resilience, respect, responsibility and relationships were all out on display that day.
The children worked tirelessly in groups and came up with some fabulous new learning! Here they are in action!

Welcome!
Tena koutou katoa,
Welcome to the Te Rito blog. This blog has information about the Year 3 and 4 students at HNPS in Rooms 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 12 and 13.
In this blog you will find updates about what our students have been learning.
Feel free to leave a comment, for the children, on our posts.
Team Names
Last year, a lot of thought went into the changing of the team names we have at HNPS. This was both a result of ERO's recommendation for the school to embrace Maori culture to a greater degree and the recognition we needed a strong framework with which our learners could connect. Historically at HNPS we had the Year 1 team, the Year 2 team, the Middle team and the Senior team. The new concept is around growth and we will deliver this theme through the growth phases of a tree, or more specifically a Kowhai tree.
The Year 1 team will be known as Te Kakano signifying the seed which we recognise has the potential to grow.
The Year 2 team will be known as Pakiaka which is the root system which continues to grow and flourish once a solid foundation has been laid.
The middle team will be known as Te Rito which is the shoot. This represents new growth and the search to branch out and find new light.
The senior team will be known as Mahuri which is the young sapling which will continue to grow and go forward into the world with confidence.
At the final Assembly each year the Year 1 children will present the Year 6 leavers with a young Kowhai sapling.
Thanks, Te Rito teachers -
(Raewyn Field - Team Leader, Ben Phillpotts, Rose Gill, Sam Newton, Shelley Washington, Emma Boyd and Sue Jarvis).
